Antoine Blanchard

Parisian artist, Antoine Blanchard was born in France on November 15, 1910.

Blanchard’s passion for art began during his early years watching his father carve and create furniture pieces to sell in their family store. The production of creating items inspired him to draw scenes from observation. Blanchard studied sculpture and drawing at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes. When he graduated, he received the school’s highest distinction of Le Prix du Ministre.

After years of practicing art, Blanchard travelled to Paris in 1932 where he enrolled in the Paris École des Beaux Arts. He remained in Paris for many years, developing a profound appreciation for the city and its lively street life.

Blanchard had always been interested in portraying Paris during the Belle Époque (1871-1914). It was a time period he most favoured. He would research and study images and subjects that he collected of Paris during the turn of the century.
