"My work is concerned with the functional aspect of clay. For me, form and surface decoration are the reason why I choose the salt firing process. There is a spontaneity of decorating with coloured slips or incising into the clay surface. The clay forms are not hidden by additional glaze. I use both stoneware and porcelain clays. After the application of slips and or glazes, I rely on the firing technique of salt firing or vapor glazing to give a surface texture to the finished piece. This texture is the formation of glass beads on the outside of the vessel. The successful pot is one that has a clarity of both glaze and form. Although salt glaze is an old firing technique, my pots are non-traditional in form and contemporary in design, made to function in day to day use as well as decorative presentation.

I have been living and working in the Millbrook area where I have had a studio and showroom since 1973."
